Pricing Don't Explain

$800 for this photo? You must be crazy. It took 2 minutes to take that photo!

Do I have to justify my prices? I could have gone into:

  1. I literally risked my life to get that photo. 3 minutes after I made that photo, a steel beam fell were I was standing. Luckily, I had moved away.
  2. It took me a month of phone calls and emails to get the authorization to get access.


I don't have to justify my prices. When people ask for a breakdown or a justification of prices, it's to nickel and dime to lower the price. After asking a few questions, she was going to use my photo for promotion at a whole bunch of conferences. Just making the print on acrylic for the conference displays was going to cost her over $3,000.

Her – Oh! [pause]
Her – I'll have to get back to you.


So far, she has not called back, but it will only take 3 weeks to make the acrylic prints and the conference is in November 2008. Will she find something else? Or maybe…
