All Things Being Equal

All other things being equal, people will buy the cheapest one. Luckily for us1), we are not all equals.

  1. 2 photographers with the same equipment at the same event will take different photos2).
  2. 2 photographers with the same computer and the software will process their photos differently.
  3. 2 photographers with the same DAM3) software will use different keywords.
  4. 2 photographers will have different business skills.
  5. 2 photographers will have different inter-personal skills. One will be much more pleasant and easier to deal with than the other one.

So why charge the same price as the next photographer? Charge what you think you are worth. The more you charge, the more people and customers will see your value.

1) Us: the photographers
2) With Jim Bourg for Reuters being the only photographer out of 75 other photographers to take the photo of McCain doing the “Iguana Walk” at the end of the 3rd debate with Obama: McCain doing the iguana walk
3) DAM: Digital Asset Management
