Not too many of these around:
The RED camera is a modular box with contacts. Everything is modular. Module this, module that… Lens mounts can be Arri, Canon, Nikon or Leica. Modular/upgradable CPU with upgradable/modular CMOS, screen, batteries, support…
The RED camera is a movie camera that does 4K and 5K with usable still images, as high as 13 megapixels (higher than a Nikon D3s/D300s), that can be extracted from the “digital stream.”
| Format | Horizontal Resolution | Vertical Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| HD | 1920 | 1080 |
| RED 4K | 4096 | 2304 |
| RED 5K | 5120 | 2700 |
What makes the RED camera revolutionary is not just the cost but also the “native” ISO. The default sensitivity of the Mysterium sensor is ISO 320. The Mysterium-X sensor “native” ISO is 800! This means that, for lighting a scene, the director doesn't need one or two power trucks anymore and can use the “regular” electricity for lighting. This means that they can save from $5,000 to $50,000 per day just on rentals for the lighting.
Some Hollywood movies have been made with the RED camera, but the RED cameras are extremely popular with independent film makers. They can buy a movie camera that costs about the same price as renting an Arri digital movie camera for 2 to 3 weeks.
