How to carry a "Big Rig"

The vast majority of the people (including me) when they need to carry a camera, the big lens and the tripod, they leave them attached to the tripod and carry the whole “shebang” over the shoulder like this:

Not Jim, he unhooks the camera/lens combo from the tripod and carries his Nikon/400mm f/2.8 combo in one hand and the Gitzo tripod in the other hand. He's careful, especially at this price:

  • Gitzo tripod: $1,200
  • Wimberley Gimball Head: $700
  • Nikon D300: $1,800
  • Nikon 400mm f/2.8: $9,500

This is the price of a used BMW or a brand new Huyndai Accent.
