Inkjet Print Framed Under Glass

It's been years since I printed my own photos. Now I use professional labs, but last month, I had to print at a friend on a large Epson 4480 printer. I also needed to get it framed under glass. Once printed, I took my print to the frame guy, Larry, who told me that it would take a couple of weeks to frame the print.

What? A couple of weeks? I need it in a couple of days. No can do! Why? Because the print has to be properly dried or the inkjet print will "ghost" inside the frame.

What's ghosting? Larry went on explaining that the inkjet print that I gave him is not completely dry, the print looks like it's dry, but there are still chemical fumes. His instructions were:

  1. Wait for at least an hour after printing, for the print to "dry" before placing sheets of clean white paper to cover the whole print.
  2. Let it sit for a couple of days.
  3. The paper will absorb the chemicals fumes.
  4. If after a couple of days, the clean white paper is curly, replace them with other clean white sheets of papers and let it dry for another couple of days.
  5. Do that until the clean white papers are not curling anymore. All the fumes will have been released and absorbed by the paper.
  6. Then it's ready to be framed under glass.
