Bailout

In North America, that's both Canada and the US, the auto bailout is front news. GM, Ford and Chrysler want to up to $200 billion dollars, in total from Canada, US & Mexico. They want 14 billion from the US and 3.5 billion from Canada by next week, or the will go bankrupt...

Only Ford's CEO, Alan Mullaly did a credible job of explaining how the bailout would help. At least he has a "plan".

Our plan is actually quite simple: to build the best vehicles on the road today and make them affordable for millions.

Another one from the Dumb Department

I regularly see people doing stupid things, being punished for being stupid and then complaining about it. The latest case is Shane Baker. He was at REI, a very large outdoor store in Seattle. Shane took photos of the private security guards refilling the ATM machine. First should he have taken photos of the security guards that were refilling the ATM? I don't think so, but when the security guards asked him to stop, he kept and taking photos and he started arguing with them.

Baby On Board

Last night I was one of three photographers at a reception. Three photographers, three different clients covering the same people. We all know each other. I arrived first, unloaded my equipment, and started to make the rounds to find the best spots and the best angles. The other two guys arrive and Joe asks for my help to unload his SUV, a Land Rover LR3, which he left at the front. I go and help when I notice at the back the warning sign stuck on the rear window: Baby On Board

Me — I see that you have the baby sign in the rear window.
Him — Yes, Rebecca wanted it.
Me — What does it mean?
Him — It means that I drive with a baby in the back seat.
Me — But you don't have a baby in the back seat.
Him — Rebecca likes it.

Do As I Say

From the "do as I say instead of how I do" department.

The Newspaper Association of America's job is to promote the printing of newspapers, to promote the survival of the newspapers. The NAA lobbies in Washington and prints a glossy magazine: Presstime.

The Newspaper Association of America has laid off 48% of its employees, 39 employees. It has also killed its print magazine: Presstime and the Newspaper Association of America will only focus on their online website.

The Newspaper Association of America purpose is to promote the value of print as opposed to online-only products. John Sturm, the president of the Newspaper Association of America, wrote in a memo to his employees that the staff reductions were to:

A Sucker's Born Everyday

On 6-Jul-2008, Lewis Hamilton won the Formula 1, UK Grand Prix in is Mercedes/McLaren. Will you earn more money if you buy a Mercedes or a McLaren? Will it make you a better driver?

Kyle Busch is leading the Nascar 2008, as of 29-July-2008, in his Toyota sponsored by the M&M candies. Nobody believes that, since they are driving a Toyota Camry and that Kyle Busch won last weekend, it will make them a better driver.

When was the last time you asked a carpenter what's the brand of his hammer or his drills and circular saws? Does it make a difference?

Email Errors

Why is it that important emails that contain no error will develop errors while passing through the Internet.

Cutting Corners

How do you deal with people who want to cut corners to save money on your photography?

I just don't think it will turn out the way you want, if we do that.

Two People

There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer.

This camera takes nice pictures

Saying a camera takes nice pictures is like saying a guitar plays nice melodies.

Darren Rowse — Digital Photography School

  1. So many times, I've been told the same thing. It “infuriates me”.
  2. This will save you tens of thousands of dollars in money saved by not buying gear that doesn't improve your photographic vision. It will earn you tens of thousands of dollars by allowing you to concentrate on your photographic vision and producing great photos.
