Pricing: Don't Explain
$800 for this photo? You must be crazy. It took 2 minutes to take that photo!
Do I have to justify my prices? I could have gone into:
- I literally risked my life to get that photo. 3 minutes after I made that photo, a steel beam fell were I was standing. Luckily, I had moved away.
- It took me a month of phone calls and emails to get the authorization to get access.
- I can't afford to go out of business.
I don't have to justify my prices. When people ask for a breakdown or a justification of prices, it's to nickel and dime to lower the price. After asking a few questions, she was going to use my photo for promotion at a whole bunch of conferences. Just making the print on acrylic for the conference displays was going to cost her over $3,000.
Her — Oh! [pause]
Her — I'll have to get back to you.
So far, she has not called back, but it will only take 3 weeks to make the acrylic prints and the conference is in November 2008. Will she find something else? Or maybe...
