Predictions for 2010
It's almost the end of December 2009. The New Year is coming. Everybody, and their dog, is predicting what will happen in 2010. And not only that they claim that they are always right. So it's also my time to make my photo predictions, but:
- I'm too arrogant to admit that I could be wrong.
- I'm kind of a procrastinator.
With both of those facts, I think that it's time to make my predictions for the year 2009.
Cameras
- New cameras with much higher ISOs. ISOs so high that you can make photos of the famed black cats in a coal mine. Good and usable ISO of 6400 even ISO 12800. It did happen with the Nikon D3s and the Canon 1Dmk4. The ISO wars are also on with the Canon 7D and the Nikon D300s. The rest of the camera world has staid put with 2008.
- New cameras with higher resolutions. Does the Nikon D3x with 24 megapixels belongs to 2008 or 2009? It was announcement and shipped in limited quantities in December 2008. Nikon has staid with 12 megapixels for their D90, D300s and D3s, while Canon has forged ahead with the APS-C 7D —18 megapxiels and the APS-H 1Dmk4 — 16 megapixels. The rest of the camera world has staid put with 2008.
- A new camera format: micro-4/3rd from Olympus and Panasonic. I thought that it was a mistake for Olympus to start a new format, they don't have the resources for 2 formats, the 4/3rd and the micros-4/3rd. The micro4/3rd format is a runaway success, but the 4/3rd format is floundering. Many photographers, and I know some, have left the Olympus family because Olympus is far too late in upgrading their 4/3rd cameras.
- Looks like Canon has regained it's “mojo” with the Canon 7D and the Canon 1DMk4 and competes on par with Nikon. Nikon had some wins, Canon had others.
Internet
Bigger, better, and much more crowed. Everybody, hoping to become a photographer, has started their own website and blog in the dream of become famous, rich and multi gazillionaire like [Scott Kelby][1]. That's the Scott Kelby of the publishing empire, the NAPP… Most of them have failed and dropped with dead websites that haven't been updated in month.
Photos
Less and less talk of photos, people want:
- Nikon vs Canon, what's the best?
- Does Nikon or Canon has the best high ISO?
- Does Nikon or Canon has the best auto-focus?
Predictions for 2010
Let's face it, I have the feeling that 2010 will be very similar to 2009 unless there is a major world event such a nuclear war, a world war, a real pandemic…
- Please note, that no fact was harmed in the creation of this article.
- It's only my opinion.
- My opinion will change with the direction of the wind.
