What's your photo specialty
I was looking around the web when I went to a UK photographer's web site. He claims that he specializes in:
- creative location
- lifestyle
- outdoor event
- industrial
- aerial
- construction
- architectural
- sport
- mountain
- world adventure travel photography for advertising, marketing, corporate, public relations & editorial
- original commissioned digital photography & stock picture library
I have not changed a word or the order of his photographic specialties. It looks like he specializes in everything except weddings, pet photography and boudoir photography. Maybe I can summarize that he specializes in pressing the button. He sure does not specialize in architectural photography or construction photography.
It's OK to do all these different things but don't claim that they all are your specialties.
Surgery specialties
Would you go for heart surgery to a surgeon that specializes in:
- cardiothoracic surgery
- neurosurgery
- otolaryngology [nose/ears...]
- pediatric surgery
- plastic surgery
- trauma
- orthopedic surgery
- urology
- oral and maxillo-facial surgery
I am not sure that I would survive an open heart surgery and I know that I don't want to go to this surgeon.
Do people believe in your photo specialties?
This begs the question: What do you do when you want to have "many photographic specialties"? You can't have that many photographic specialties! It's that simple, nobody will believe you. I sure don't believe that this guy, no matter how talented he his, can specialize in everything. I don't believe him and how many potential customers would believe him?
How many photography specialties can you have?
Definitely two, may be three. But after that it's not much of a specialty anymore, unless your specialty is to press the button.
How do you show that you can do different photography without claiming it to be your photo specialty?
Create a gallery that cover that photo subject, and you can have as many galleries as you want.
People will make their own decision based on your pictures. In this case, pictures are much more important than words.
