Lemmings

The lemmings are at it again. Yesterday, Nikon announced that they will be selling a new fixed length lens for their DX cameras, the AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G.

I haven't seen that lens, none of the photo blogs that I follow have seen it, but still they rave about this lens. People are doing reviews by press release so: a 1001noisycameras.com wrote about it:

Review Frustrations?

When reading through the forums it's not uncommon to hear photographers being frustrated with what "passes" as a review these days. So perhaps our next contest should be: Who can write the best camera review using only the press release? :-)

  1. I have noticed that this is more likely to happen with Nikon than with any other brand. The same thing happened with the Nikon D90. Nikon was also pilloried for the Nikon D3x by people who didn't try it.
  2. A large number, feels like the vast majority, of photo blogs, the lemmings, are only repackaging what other photo blogs, other lemmings, are saying. The most recent instance was when Adobe announced the Lightroom v2.3 Release Candidate, but since Adobe didn't say Release candidate in the title of their news release, many, many blogs said: Adobe released Lightroom v2.3, then a couple of days after point this out, these same blogs mentioned that the release was only a Release Candidate.
  3. Very few blogs try to do something different/personal except for the photo-photo blogs.
