Keeping Your Eyes On The Ball -- Part 2
I have already written about keeping your eyes on the ball in many articles, especially with “Keeping your eyes on the ball”. Why am I bringing this subject again? Everybody knows that you should keep your eyes on the ball. So why again today? Because we have one of the “best” example of what happens when you don't keep your eyes on the ball.
President Obama. He has very important things that he needs to concentrate on. He doesn't seem to get it. This morning it was the Olympics for Chicago, the afternoon he “deals” with Afghanistan and the evening with health care.
You know what? It does not work. So far, in spite of having an absolute majority in the both the House and the Senate, Obama hasn't been able to deliver. This has nothing to do with whether you agree with Obama's policies or not. It has to do that nothing gets done when you don't keep your eyes on the ball. I am sure that he works very hard. I've heard that he works from very early morning to very late evening as many as 7 days a week. But so far, as of the beginning of October 2009, 8½ month after taking power he has not delivered on anything. People will claim that it's the recession, the world, the hang-over about Bush… Even his most ardent supporters are starting to become unhappy.
Look at highly paid professionals taking part in a huge business: Sports. Many athletes are overpaid and under performing in regard to their salaries, but most of them deliver. They deliver because their contracts are renewed and their salaries go up. All sports concentrate on the ball. All sports only have 1 ball, be it football, soccer, baseball or hockey… When I was a kid, I saw a Disney movie, I can't find the title, but the team was loosing toward the end of the movie so each player hid US footballs under their jerseys and took them out to confuse the opposing team while the guy with the real ball went for the touch-down.
Photography is like computers. Photography is one of the field that is nothing by itself for itself. As a photographer, you do not get paid for photos! As a photographer, you get paid for photos of… You need a subject, dead or alive.
We all know a photographer that specialize in Weddings, Architecture, Sports, Underwater, Landscapes, Wildlife and many more. These photographers think that the ball is meeting somebody and claiming to specialize in whatever is the topic of the day.
Some photographers specialize in birds only. Some photographers specialize in the wildlife of one area only. Some photographers specialize in squirrels! Some photographers specialize in architectural photos at night only! These photographers charge a lot more because of their specialty. These photographers know how to keep their eyes on the ball.
- My problem has always been that the ball around the corner looks better than the ball that's in front of me. But I'm working hard to keep my eyes on my ball by reminding me: “Am I keeping my eyes on the ball?”
- When kids forget to keep their eyes on the ball, they get diagnosed with ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder. When an adult does the same thing, he is exploring, energetic…
