I Know Who You Are!

Do you realize how information you give others when you are surfing the Internet? Here are a few stats on you:

Even without any cookie, I can identify every single one of you. I know your IP address [it can change]. I know your operating system, your browser, your screen resolution... All of these things put together, make you 99.9999% unique.

But this also tell me which web page you are using, where you are coming from, how long you are staying on a page. Are you reading it or not?

I'm in the process of redesigning the website to eventually integrate the photos "properly". This means that I can make the width of the page slightly less than 1280 pixels wide, 80% of the people have a megabit download, this means that I can put my images, elements... without slowing down the website.

Also think about the marketing implications.

Since I use Google Analytics like another 250 million web sites, Google knows all of that, but it also know:

  • Almost all the websites that you visit, whether you use Google or came through a bookmark.
  • Which web site you came from.
  • Which web site you are going to.
  • Which web page you viewed.
  • Which web page you read.
  • What are your interests.
  • Google has a profile on every one of you, including me.
