Delays
Delays
Delay is the deadliest form of denial.
— Parkinson's Law of Delay
Confession time: I am very much guilty of delaying aka procrastination because I don't really want to do it. There are some things that I will procrastinate for years. I even did my 2008 predictions on 17-Dec-2008. I will always find something else to do rather that do that phone call... I go on the Internet, I will try to fix something or change something on the website. It's like a black hole that sucks all my time. There's is always one more thing to prepare, new emails, phone calls from an existing customer...
Here is a partial list of things I am delaying:
- Build a new photo website.
- Make marketing phone calls.
- Process some, actually 1000s, photos.
- Meet with photo lab and the printer.
- Print some, actually 100s, photos.
- Rebuild, upgrade portfolios.
- Work on marketing1
- ...
It's affecting the business. My 2009 New Year's resolution is to cut, kill, and abolish delays. Once I have reduced my delays2, business will significantly improve. What's your New Year's resolution to improve your photography business for 2009?
My delays/procrastination is only starting. Once started, no problem...
1 I am working on marketing everyday through this website, but I am not working as regularly on the other forms of marketing ↑
2 I know that I will not abolish or kill all of my delays, but reducing them will be a significant improvement ↑
