Daylight Saving Time

Daylight Saving Time

Yesterday: 2-Nov-2008 was the end of the daylight saving time, back to standard time. I had to change 11 clocks manually1, and another half dozen were done automatically2.

The important question is: Did you change the clock on your cameras?. You should, you must, and you need to do it!

To me, having the correct and accurate time is crucial. Some of my sales depend on it! I do some receptions, where people will ask me for prints, when they see the tiny preview in the LCD panel. I have to take their name and I must identify them correctly in the pictures. So what do I do? I take my notepad out, write their info and the exact time, according to my watch. Then I can identify them by the EXIF date and time info.

My watch, my computers and therefore my cameras are synchronized to some atomic clocks. Most Windows computers: XP SP2, XP SP3 and Vista are synchronized once a week to Microsoft's time servers. I don't know about Apple with Macs. You may need to configure the Mac with NTP to do the clock synchronization.
