Cashmere Sweaters

New York, the centre of the universe, Wall Street has been seriously hit by the recession, banking fraud,... In the last year since January 2008, Wall Street has laid off 40% of its employees. The other 60% have had from pay cuts to no bonus1. It's been a slaughter fest in New York, especially Manhattan.

Jay Kos, an upscale men's wear boutique2, on Park Ave in upper Manhattan3 sells buttoned-up men's fashion—traditional hats, Italian-made shirts, cashmere sweaters from Scotland. Jay Kos is also the name of the owner of the "boutique". He put a huge sign in his window:

CASHMERE SWEATERS: $2,500, RECESSION PRICE: $2,500

LAMB'S FLEECE JACKET: $11,000, RECESSION PRICE: $11,000

The sign was so unusual that he was interviewed on TV, he said:

Some people hated it, but most people loved it. And some people even bought because of it.

Competing on price defines you as a commodity. During the interview, Jay Kos said that sales were UP! Companies, such as DuPont, Colgate-Palmolive and McDonalds are raising their prices. As a photographer, lowering your prices will make you compete with "Uncle Harry" who just bought his new Nikon D90.

1 Except for AIG executives...

2 They don't call themselves a store, that's too Wallmart.

3 The very rich part of Manhattan
