Bailout

In North America, that's both Canada and the US, the auto bailout is front news. GM, Ford and Chrysler want to up to $200 billion dollars, in total from Canada, US & Mexico. They want 14 billion from the US and 3.5 billion from Canada by next week, or the will go bankrupt...

Ford's CEO, Alan Mullaly did a credible job of explaining how the bailout would help. At least he has a "plan".

Our plan is actually quite simple: to build the best vehicles on the road today and make them affordable for millions.

This statement points the company in the right direction. Will they succeed? Maybe. On the other hand, GM's CEO, Rick Wagoner and Chrysler's CEO, Bob "hatchet" Nardelli failed to describe any plan to increase their market share, nor did they acknowledge that's the root cause of their problems1.

The same thing happens in the photo business. You have been making a good income doing stock photography over the last 10 years. Now you get paid peanuts, sometimes it's only the shell not even the peanut. What's your direction? What's your plan?

  • Will you keep on doing the same type of photos and keep on whining?
  • Will you search for niches that are currently under served?
  • Will you search for new uses of your photos in industries that didn't use that type of photos?
  • Will you raise your prices?
  • Will you lower your prices?
  • Will you start a new marketing campaign?
  • Will you repackage yourself?

What's needed in a simple sentence:

  1. Here is the situation.
  2. Here is the solution to the problem.
  3. Here is the plan to get to the solution.

1 They have many other problems, such as union, pension plans, paying workers for NOT working, dealership they can't close...
